i have a weird take on this film. before saying anything, i want the say i thought the book was good and im going to explain why: the book was in no way intended to romanticize pedophilia, twisted fantasies, or anything else that the content was centered around. comments -> (1/?)

it was so completely shallow and i mean not even lacking nuance that’s okay it’s literally impossible to make a movie of that book but all the good parts of it also? all the things that made the book so interesting and still aesthetically pleasing (kinda?)

I can't bear this story, man. Kubrick literally looked at Nabokov's script and said yeah, let me direct this.
Haven't read the book and won't, but I heard that it isn't supposed to romanticize the whole plot (unlike what Kubrick did).
Anyways, the 1997 remake was kind of better.

Maybe I expected more? But it is an old movie 🤷‍♀️
