The White Lotus

THE WORST SHOW IN THE WORLD. IT WAS SO STUPID AND SO NEEDLESSLY INAPPROPRIATE I CANNOT EXPRESS HOW AWFUL THIS SHOW WAS AND MY DISRESPECT FOR THE GREAT ACTORS THAT CHOSE TO BE IN IT. IT WASNT EVEN A MYSTERY IDK WHY IT SAYS THAT IT WAS JUST IDIOCRACY. WHY DID IT WIN SO MANY AWARDS?

I truly believe the writing and acting and execution of this show is impeccable. Like it’s actually phenomenal, especially season 2. It’s funny as all hell but the serious moments and themes really hit hard. I need a season 3 immediately.

The White Lotus

I am so glad I watched this show. I decided to start watching on whim after seeing Agatha All Along, since I loved Aubrey Plaza in that and wanted to see more from her. However, I ended up really enjoying this for so many more reasons than just her.

The best thing is just how beautiful and well-shot the scenery is. Even in the midst of all the craziness that happens, it keeps cutting back to the beautiful beaches and hillsides and decorations in the hotel, and all of the shots are just gorgeous. The music also knocked it out of the park - from a creative visual and auditory perspective, this show is essentially flawless.

I also really enjoyed the writing. It immediately reels you in at the start of each season with a “mystery,” but the show really isn’t a mystery. It’s very much a dark comedy drama, and the hook is always paid off in a satisfying way by the end, but that’s not really what the show is about. It simply follows different parties at the hotel and unravels their (usually insane) relationships and stories. A lot of it is outlandish and hilarious, but it’s never over the top - it is a much more toned-down comedy than a lot of shows.

One flaw with this style of storytelling is that, because the characters don’t interact much and all have their own, distinct storylines, there’s always going to be plots you’re more invested in and less invested in, and that was very much the case here. However, the good thing is that there were moments where I was most invested in each of the different plot threads. My interest was swapping back and forth between the threads all series long, so each character and story had their own time to shine.

One slight exception to this is Jennifer Coolidge’s character in the first season - I REALLY didn’t like her character (in the FIRST season). I get exactly why she’s funny to so many people, and I think she does a great job in the role, but that style of humor just really isn’t for me. She appears again in the second season, and I found her to be much more enjoyable that second time around. It seems like her character was just a lot more refined, and she had a lot more to do.

I do want to shout out some of my favorite performances quickly: Murray Bartlett as Armond, Alexandra Daddario as Rachel, Jake Lacy as Shane, Steve Zahn as Mark, Meghann Fahy as Daphne, Theo James as Cameron, Aubrey Plaza as Harper, and Leo Woodall as Jack. That’s a TON, but I’m still leaving some out - the performances in this show are so great, and they have so many talented actors.

Can’t wait for season 3!
