Couldn’t even finish the first episode. Dialogue = cringe

i loveeeeee shows set in this time period. i was really really invested in this show. guy and nan are perfection. i feel like nan could have run away with guy and jinny at the end, but i understand why at the same time. the way all the girls have side stories is nice. good show!!

I really try to finish shows even when I don’t like them as obv it’s not entirely fair to rate it if I haven’t finished but I just can’t 😭. I feel like they were too focused on everything being aesthetically pleasing including the actors they forgot about the acting and writing.

Because the acting is atrocious. You’re not at all made to think this is set in the 1800s other than the props and ig the styling? But the girls’s dialect and mannerisms are straight out of the 21st century. And I know it’s not supposed to be 100% historically accurate to its time seeing as poc are peacefully coexisting amongst white people. And I don’t mind lack of accuracy within itself because it’s fiction. Like I love Bridgerton but it gets to a point. Especially if they’re going to be speaking in nineteenth century English.

The writing is trash too and feels forced. The commentary on misogyny and racism feels uninspired. Like they were writing certain dialogue in the hopes it’d go viral on tumblr or tiktok. The costume design is also bad and all over the place. Overall this show was boring and cringe with bad pacing and acting. It sucks because I was really looking forward to it as I love period pieces.

TLDR: this show sucks. Watch the gilded age instead
