Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre

The lows are SO low. But it has some excellent episodes that unfortunately end horribly

I don’t like it…I don’t dislike it…I hate it…I hate the fact that I love it. It’s so morbid to me but I just can’t stop myself from wanting to watch it more! I’ve always had a fascination with Japanese stories like this and I don’t think that’s something that will stop. Not ever.

I love junji ito & the stories are all great but the balloon episode is the only off-putting one in this imo, the rest of the stories don’t hit the same as they do in his books. his style & atmosphere are just really difficult to properly duplicate in animation I think

SO GOOD

its bad, but its also junji ito so i sat and watched the whole thing. unfortunately the pacing, dialogue, and animation was just awkward. the finales of the stories were so vague and abrupt it felt like whiplash. my favorite episodes were the soichi ones, they were stupidly funny

Personally for me it’s a hit or miss. I wish some of the stories could’ve had their own episode instead of it being two stories per episode. Like I wish I could’ve seen more to it then how some of the stories ended.
