Tbh never really considered this kind of basketball reality series as my thing but boy was I wrong!! I absolutely loved this. Loved the vibe and how the other countrys were mentioned. Extremely fast paced but took moments to slow down to recognisable hall of famers. Goat tier

Honestly, I expected a lot more from this.
The 2024 Olympics basketball tournament was AMAZING. Seeing all these stars come together is something I will never forget and, as someone whose favorite player is Steph Curry, I could not have been happier with how it turned out. And, for the most part, this docuseries failed to do the event the justice that it deserved.
The first criticism I have is that they tried to focus on four teams at once, which is just not what I am interested in. I certainly have the bias of being American and therefore being most interested in the American team, but that’s just the way it is. I was interested in a docuseries about the event so that I could see the inner workings of having such a star-studded Olympic team, but we honestly barely got to see any of them. 75% of the show covers the Canada, Serbia, and France teams, which is just not nearly as interesting to me. I would be totally fine if they just focused on one other team (France would be my choice - a docuseries just focusing on the US and France teams would be awesome), but the docuseries just felt so diluted. The focus on Canada esepcially confuses me, considering they went out all the way in the quarterfinal. Obviously, they couldn’t predict that, but it just makes their inclusion feel very weird.
I also think they just didn’t have very interesting players as their focuses. I love Bam Adebayo, but I love LeBron more. I really like Dillon Brooks, but SGA would easily have been my choice to focus an episode on. Same goes for Bogdan Bogdanovic as opposed to Jokic. I understand that some people are just more willing to be interviewed than others (we all knew Jokic would not be majorly featured), but I think a lot of that took away from actually seeing the inner workings of the team and preparation and everything. It’s like they needed filler content, but I would have much preferred just seeing more footage of warm-ups and time-outs and locker room talk and everything.
It also feels like they really skim over the actual basketball. We get soooo much backstory for a random player, and then the game goes by in just a few minutes, and it feels more like a montage than anything. My ideal documentary would have focused purely on the US and France, and I would have removed like 95% of the fluff. This did NOT have to be six episodes in its current state.
Of course, not everything was bad. I think the whole last episode was really good, because they made a way bigger deal out of the actual game and what happened. The focus on Steph was also great, but that’s my bias coming through. I also really really enjoyed the focus on Kevin Durant in the second episode. He’s such an interesting player, and I love hearing him talk about basketball and seeing how emotional he gets.
It wasn’t the worst thing in the world, but it felt very bloated and unfocused. I think this came out way too soon, because it just felt rushed. I hope that, someday, we can get a better documentary about such a historic team.
