Interesting story with a strong lead squandered by unnecessary fourth wall breaks and caricature. Goes out of its way to make Cheney/Rumsfeld look comic book villains when the real story makes them look bad enough. Bush especially is SNL tier parody.

I share a birthday with both Christian Bale and Cheney, I never know whether or not to be proud or ashamed

We all know the type of crimes America has committed in and out of its borders but I wish this showed the true extent of how power-mad 'politicians' get their way through manipulation and brainwashing. It does a great job in certain areas, but the 'humour' bends this beast of a biopic into a light-hearted and loving skit. I finished it feeling somewhat patriotic, which shouldn't be the case, I'm not even American. Hundreds of 'Dicks' exist today because the horrors of greed and war aren't truly understood by the public. I love how the editing and portrayals interact with us and how it shows the insignificance of life to death. "Beware the quiet man. For while others speak, he watches. And while others act, he plans. And when they finally rest…he strikes"

interesting! incredible performances across the board (and the subtle changes to makeup/prosthetics as time goes on—so good!). the contemporary relevance is of course quite obvious. unfortunately, the entire film is inflected with a horribly millennial sheen—it’s just very 2018.
