8.7/10 i watched this on a plane and was so glad i chose it because i thought i would probably get bored but it kept me on my toes the whole time the ending wasn't my favorite just because i was hoping for a happier ending but if you like like animal thrillers u should watch this

My fear of oceans really put me in a panic with this one but it was still very fun right to the point no mess arounds

i love feeding my thalassophobia. kristen stewart with a blonde buzzcut and a cool suit, i'm obsessed with you. this is scary but i really like the camera works and how they play with many angle. interesting concept with a little twist in the end.

In "Underwater" one can easily discern influences from the classics Alien (1979) and The Abyss (1989). The lack of originality does not mean that the film is a dud. On the contrary, in some sequences it becomes extremely tense and dramatic. Its action unfolds in a claustrophobic environment. The dense shots of the inhospitable dark seabed build a suffocating atmosphere, highlighting the tension felt by the heroes. The terrible creatures that attack the researchers are generally well-designed and are reminiscent of a bit of Alien and a bit of the traditional image of pop culture aliens with large curved heads. The frequent vibrations and threatening sounds enhance the feeling of despair inside the scientific facilities. If the direction is certainly careful, we cannot say the same about the script, which as it unfolds reveals holes, conveniences and clichés. I also found the few ecological messages that the film tried to convey "dry". The conspiracy theory that is apparent at one point makes things a little more "cheesy" although it could hardly be absent in a film with such a theme. In conclusion, the film is an entertaining horror/science fiction film that is suitable for afternoon entertainment but will probably be forgotten soon as it lacks in terms of freshness and innovative ideas.
Positives: A remarkable cast with serious performances, claustrophobic environment, well-designed monsters, careful special effects.
