The Night of the Hunter

The night of the Hunter is one of the greatest works of American Cinema to come out of the 1950s. It is beautifully written, and the shots are both stunning and chilling. The use of shadows especially, almost Caligarian in nature really brought everything together. 9/10

Crazy use of lighting in this one. Really starts to be so compelling. Seeing it from a current POV I get really upset by some of the characters choices. Really creepy and suspenseful. Recency Bias score: 8/10

10/10 Robert Mitchum had a great performance. The beautiful Shelley winters and a unique plot.

An extremely good movie. I’ve never been to film school, but damn it’s gorgeous. Such a great villain who is so intimidating and manipulative. I wish I hadn’t waited this long to see this movie.
