Portrait of a Lady on Fire

In French, the title is “Portrait de LA jeune fille en feu” which means “portrait of THE lady on fire”. For it to be “a lady” the French title should’ve been “portrait d’une jeune fille en feu”. Subtle but changes everything, Heloise isn’t just any woman on fire, she’s THE woman.

You will never forget this movie

i’m devastated. beautifully done movie. I’ve been avoiding this one for a while cause I knew it would fuck me up. the longing looks were well done, I felt them so deeply. the portrait of her with her kid while holding open page 28 almost made me bawl. the closing scene was crazy.

I liked this movie because of the poetry and the tension between the two main charachters. it did lack a little "action" for me, it's like the hole movie you wait for them to fall in love and kiss but they almost don't (they do once).

Fire.. anger, refusal, awakening.. imagery slowly coming together.. page 28.. thoughts are subversive to patriarchy.. observing and being observed.. tension.. seductivity of painting.. change.. submitting to convention.. time.. Orpheus.. turn around.. remembrance.. music.. alive
