I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House
7.6 - I’m in an absolute minority but I really liked this.
Oz Perkins nails the dread-filled, slow burning, creepy tone of classic gothic horror. It doesn’t have much of a conventional ending or payoff, there’s not a lot of depth to the story & it asks you to piece some of it together as the viewer. But the oppressive score & sound design, the lighting, the claustrophobic camera work, & the isolation of the characters all work together to pull off something that I would expect a lot of haunted house horror directors wish they could do.
I’m curious what Perkins is really wanting his style to be, because the differences between this, Gretel & Hansel, Longlegs, and what I expect from the trailers for The Monkey are sort of clashing in my opinion. I guess we’ll see soon enough! (Note: I still haven’t seen The Blackcoat’s Daughter.)

This one didn’t land for me at all. It was slow, lacked scares and didn’t have a very interesting ghost story

This is a very slow paced movie, that doesn’t even speed up towards the end. Don’t expect to be shaking in fear. It’s more of a horror that leaves you feeling empty, yet full of thoughts and questions. I think it’s a pretty and poetic movie.

As others have said SUPER SLOW, to the point where when something did happen I didn’t care and wanted it to be over.

Although it was slow I enjoyed the story telling and suspense. A good change of pace for me.
