what the hell was the moment when the evil ghost suddenly started praying, caught the fire and flew like a rocket into the air

Gave me chills every second. The plot so complex yet executed nicely. Everything was connected smoothly; the scares, the twists and the acting. Reminds me a lot of The Wailing, and on par with it.

Folk Horror Fall continues… Subtitles for this one. I know some don’t like having to read, but trust me, it is worth it.

Great setup. Has a unique premise. I like the way this was broken into Acts. You know there’s more going on than what is initially believed. You can feel it and the Acts formalize it.

I like the atmosphere and feel of this movie. Great use of folklore traditions to build and develop this story. There’s nods to Kwaidan (use of folklore; the visuals: like the fireball; the samurai; protective symbols & missed areas) and I think The Wailing (use of atmosphere/dread).

If there is a weakness, I think the ending is too neatly wrapped up. It’s satisfying, but maybe too clean? 🤔

It’s a great movie though and delivers more than what I thought it would. 🔥🩸🐍☠️
