Why are most the hillbillies super chill but those two randos are nasty creeps. I need to know the neighborhood structure and which hillbillies know what. Cuz I love the inbred banjo kid and the dancing old man. Ain’t no way they associate with those other freaks. Overall mid.

Absolutely blown away by this. It’s gruesome, shocking, thrilling, disgusting, stressful and thought-provoking. Acted to perfection from any of the 4 leads. The juxtaposition of such a beautiful location with such violence is worthy of being studied. Maybe my favourite film I’ve

What in the John Boorman is this? An unexpected and unreasonable oxbow story that you definitely won't forget. I had to watch another Boorman after 'Excalibur'. Do I regret it? No. The cinematography was mesmerisingly beautiful. Boorman knows how to handle a camera and that's just a fact, not so much a script though. Characters get confusing and the story lacks any genuine entertainment. So don't watch it if you get bored easily. Most of it takes place in a river with unreliable canoes, so it's shocking how smooth it runs. The meandering and cringeworthy sequences had me giggling in '1970s'.

Peak hicksploitation though a difficult watch. Worth ticking off the list of must see horrors though.

It was a great movie especially for its time, sure it is cringey at times and the filmography is definitely outdated but it was also released in the early 70s!

Truly a masterpiece.
This film was compelling from beginning to end. The characters were all so fascinating and baffling at the same time.
Jon Voight was phenomenal in this film, he really is the star of the show.
Burt Reynolds was amazing, he reminds me of Marlon Brando.

This might have been the worst canoe trip ever. Trauma bonding with your besties? I was STRESSED out and I wasn't even there.
Burt Reynolds, without a moustache, looks like Tommy Lee Jones...
