Darkest Hour

Pro tip—if you watch this right after “Munich: Edge of War” (also on Netflix), the story picks up right where it left off. Gary Oldman is incredible.

It's a film that delivers you everything you'd expect from it, handsomely produced, confidently crafted and risk-free. From the 4-star lead performance from Oldman to the expert direction from Joe Wright, Darkest Hour is a rousing success.

Was the Oscar for Best Actor even a question in 2018? The absolute power in Oldman's portrayal is deafening. Mendelsohn's performance as king was insane too. When both of them came on the screen I thought I needed to bow, that's how good the acting is. All together the entire cast is perfect. I'm glad they only stuck with telling the start of his leadership into war. It plunged us into a dark, almost consuming period where the only colour was locked within the people. Joe Wright knew exactly how to make that colour shine. I didn't like the inaccurate but dreamlike glorifying but the production and acting had me speechless.

I remembered it better than it is, but it is still very good

Brilliant.
I love war movies, particularly WWII movies. But I don’t enjoy action-less war movies.
However, this movie was spectacular. Gary Oldman captures Winston Churchill’s essence perfectly. Not only that, his speeches at the end were given beautifully. I was deeply moved.
