Follow Andrew McCarthy on 90 minutes of therapy as he wrestles with the “Brat Pack” label 40 years later. It’s hard to sympathize with him and weird to see how tortured he has been due to this.
Those movies were an important part of my childhood.

I'm not sure if it was how much I was looking forward to/expecting from this documentary or if it really was “just okay” but I feel a little letdown.

Growing up in the 80’s I've always loved this group of actors & in particular John Hughes films. My hope was to hear stories & experiences I've never heard before. That wasn't at all what it was.

Out of the few stories told, I've heard variations of them over the years. I was also incredibly disappointed that Anthony Michael Hall was never brought up, not once. The interview with the David Blum, who wrote the New York magazine article, was less than satisfying & felt awkward from both sides. Although he may still stand behind that article he never took responsibility, apologized or took ownership of how it might have impacted this group of young adults at the time. McCarthy gave him more than one opportunity to do that.

Lastly, in the end I felt like the final product was Andrew McCarthy trying to come to terms with his feelings about it in an awkward, stiff & uncomfortable way. I'm left feeling sad I didn't get more out of it. 😢

This was really about McCarthy getting over the massive chip on his shoulder that’s been there for decades. It felt like something his therapist told him to do. That said I liked seeing the interviews. The fact he got the time of day from them gives you a sense of his and their character.

Really a very interesting character study. An exploration of the complexity and nuanced experiences of human emotion, and how it grows with a person. Which is, in and of itself, very reminiscent of the Brat Pack movies themselves.
