American Movie

Two chuckleheads try to make a classic horror movie and come up way short. It’s hard not to root for them though. They’ve got the passion, but lack the skill. This is a very watchable doc that will inspire some and make others shake their heads.

This story kind of reminds me of Ed Wood. Just a guy who loves film and not only has the courage to go out and make them (with no money) but also convinces these amazingly odd characters around him to star in them.
Mark has the typical American dream- the nice house and car. What I don’t think he realizes is he is rich in other ways. He is surrounded by these people who maybe don’t believe he will make a big film but support him anyway purely because they know it’s his dream. He has a passion for film and art.. there’s something special about that.

Great cast of characters. Mark is ambitious and lucky to have helpers. Mike is a hoot. And Uncle Bill is a trooper. Endearing.

"American Movie" leaves you wanting to analyze every moment, yet it's a documentary. Should I do the same for real life? What's the difference? It was captured so beautifully. There’s so much wrong with this movie - I love dearly. Watch it with care, it’s very cathartic.
